About Lord Jagannath

Who is Lord Jagannath?"

Lord Jagannath is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism, worshipped primarily in the Indian state of Odisha but also across India and beyond. His name, 'Jagannath,' literally translates to 'Lord of the Universe' in Sanskrit, signifying his omnipresence and supreme nature as a manifestation of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. Lord Jagannath's image is unique and strikingly different from other forms of Hindu deities. He is typically depicted as a large, round face with large, captivating eyes, which symbolize the presence of divinity in a simple, approachable form."

Alongside Lord Jagannath, his siblings, Lord Balabhadra (his elder brother) and Goddess Subhadra (his sister), are also worshipped, making up the sacred trio of the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Together, these deities represent a profound spiritual and cultural significance that transcends regional boundaries and is central to many Hindu festivals, particularly the grand Ratha Yatra (Chariot Festival), attracting millions of devotees worldwide."Our experienced meditation guides lead you through soothing practices designed to calm the mind, relax the body, and awaken the spirit.

The Story of Lord Jagannath

The Divine Origin of Lord Jagannath

“The legend of Lord Jagannath is deeply rooted in ancient Hindu mythology. According to one popular version of the story, Lord Jagannath’s origins can be traced back to King Indradyumna of ancient India, who was a devout worshiper of Lord Vishnu. It is said that he received a divine vision and a message from the gods to build a temple in honor of Lord Vishnu.”

“In his quest to find an idol for Lord Vishnu, King Indradyumna sent his ministers on a journey to various parts of the world. They finally found a divine, self-manifested deity in the form of a large wooden log. The log was carried back to the king’s kingdom, and upon carving the idol, the form of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra emerged. The wooden idols of these deities, known for their distinctive round eyes and absence of full bodily detail, symbolize the presence of the divine in a simple, approachable manner, reminding devotees of the formless and limitless nature of the divine.”
